If you’re hoping for a night of passion with your partner this evening, nothing sets the mood more than a slice of pizza and a bit of Boyz II Men, according to new research.
A study into the romantic lives of 2,000 Americans looked at the music, food and behaviors most commonly occurring before a bit of time between the sheets and found pizza, French fries and tacos top the list for America’s couples.
And while long-heralded aphrodisiacs like raw oysters are often associated with the act of love, results showed eating spaghetti or ordering some chicken wings can also lead to a good night -appearing on the list of top pre-sex foods.
Boys II Men’s ‘I’ll make love to you’ topped the list as the song most Americans used to set the mood, followed by "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston, and "Endless Love" by Diana Ross & Lionel Richie.
The survey of 2,000 US adults by home food delivery service Yelp Eat24 found 45 percent of slick men have a series of ‘moves’ when trying for some intimate time with their partner, including offering a compliment, giving a massage, and cooking dinner.
A quarter think cleaning the home or doing chores helps their cause if hoping to be intimate with their partner that evening.
Unfortunately for guys, about seven in ten women say they can spot their partner’s ‘moves’ a mile away.
Results also showed a correlation with food and takeout as the survey shows couples order takeout when planning a romantic night with their partner in hopes of getting some action between the sheets.
“People usually associate oysters with getting frisky,” says Yelp Eat24 CEO Mike Ghaffary. “But I think we all can agree eating pizza on the couch is way more relaxing. Plus, since you’re already on the couch anyway...well, you get the idea.”
“A lot of the men said their ‘moves’ involved complimenting their partner and then offering to handle dinner,” says Ghaffary, “but 70 percent of women told us they can spot their partner’s ‘moves’ a mile away. So basically, “Let’s have pizza” has become code for ‘We should get busy tonight’.”
Men are more likely to use music along with drinking to get their partners in the mood, while women use a sexy outfit and set candles more than men.
And, if you’re wondering why you’re getting so many texts and calls from your partner throughout the day, it could because they’re hoping for some action in between the sheets.
Nearly one in five say they constantly keep in touch with their partner, make more effort or ask in detail about their day when they’re hoping to have sex that evening.
Still, it takes most Americans quite some time to set the mood. Over a third of those surveyed said they start setting the mood an hour or two in advance.
About one in six say they have to start romancing their partner at least three to five hours in advance if things are going to progress.
And a hard working three percent said they have to put in two days or more of romantic work if they hope to have an intimate night with their significant other.
Slowly making a move with a hug or kiss is the best way to start the action, according to 68 percent of the American people. An upfront one in five boldly just ask their partner if they want to have sex.
An argumentative two percent feel the need to argue the case as to why they should have sex, and a hopeless one percent begs, pleads, or pray for help when hoping to score a night of passion with their partner.
“Love takes work but eating doesn’t have to. That’s why we’re encouraging everyone to order delivery and enjoy quality time at home. Just you, your partner, and a pizza. And maybe some egg rolls or a few chicken wings. Because if that isn’t romantic we don’t know what is.”
