Ever needed a confidence boost? Getting a fresh haircut, wearing a new outfit, and doing a good deed for somebody are America’s top three “confidence boosters,” according to new research.
Exercising, listening to one of your favorite songs, and shopping ’til you drop also rank high on the list.
These confidence boosters emerged from a study by national waxing franchise LunchboxWax discovering the small things in life that give our confidence a boost -- and the things people do to give themselves that extra bit of confidence when they need it most.
From talking to a close friend to just simply having a little hair removed, the list revealed that sometimes it’s the smallest things that make us more confident in everyday life.
In fact, just drinking their morning cup of coffee is enough to make one in four Americans feel more confident (26 percent).
Spending time with a hobby, reading a good book, and getting a mani-pedi are also enough for one in four Americans to receive a little boost.
Confidence boosters aren’t as few and far between as you’d think, with the average American saying they experience two confidence boosters every day. In fact, many respondents reported that they could actually use three of these confidence boosters each day.
12:30 p.m. was pinpointed as the time of day where Americans are most confident, with summer being the most confident season, perhaps unsurprisingly.
But is there a correlation between your grooming habits and your confidence? According to the results, definitely.
Respondents who rated themselves as “extremely confident” also had the most steps in their grooming/beauty routine on average (five) and also rated themselves highest on how well-groomed they considered themselves (eight out of ten).
Conversely, respondents who self-reported as “not confident at all” had a step less in their routine, and gave themselves only a five out of ten in the grooming department overall.
“We see it every day, people feel good when they’re cared for and when they care for themselves. Care looks different to all, but the result is the same -- confidence that helps you greet the day with more joy,” said Debi Lane, founder and CEO of LunchboxWax.
“The results showed that confidence starts with your grooming routine -- that’s where we come in. Our speed waxing process combines refined technique with the highest quality products to give you that extra boost of confidence that will kickstart your week.”
Over half of survey respondents (56 percent) agreed that spending more time on their grooming/beauty routine in the morning made them feel more confident throughout the day, and another 69 percent agreed that their body hair length impacted their overall confidence levels, as well.
Grooming and confidence seem to go hand-in-hand, but does grooming have an effect on your happiness too?
The results showed that those who self-reported as “extremely happy” also had the most steps in their grooming/beauty routine, and also gave themselves the highest rating on how well-groomed they consider themselves.
“A beauty routine doesn’t have to be rigorous, ultimately it’s about taking the time to prioritize yourself -- even if just for a few minutes every day. It makes all the difference,” continued Lane. “At LunchboxWax, we believe in more than just external beauty -- it’s how you feel about yourself.”
